A Behind-the-Scenes Look at the Summit Peeks Logo

A few months ago, I decided to pursue my idea of a social media/community engagement project. I would set up a main Twitter account, and each week someone new would take it over. They would tweet about the activities, projects, organizations and small businesses they love in Akron, sharing what makes it special and unique to them.

The project would be similar to @inthecle and @weloveclt. I have small but significant ties to Cleveland and Charlotte, yet I wanted something similar for Akron. I spend most of my time in Akron, since I live and and work here. So I created Summit Peeks.

Months went by and I never decided on the name. After brainstorming one Saturday with a friend, I had the concept outlined and everything else ready to go. Yet no name and therefore no logo. So the idea kept sitting in the back of my head.

Weeks later I found myself in the Unbox Akron/Devil Strip office being interrogated by Roger and Chris as to what my “passion project” was. We kicked around a few names for it, as I double checked social media sites to see what was already in use. We landed on “Summit Peeks” (which was buried in my list) and everything checked out. Half the battle was won. What about a logo?

Soon after picking the name, a logo idea popped into my head, and I quickly doodled it on a sticky note. It was goofy, yet kind of cute. I was going to try my hand at creating something similar in Illustrator, but lucked into meeting Bradley Elliott from Parlor Interactive who had stopped by the Unbox office. He was gracious enough to take my doodle and make into something amazing.

After a few tweaks and edits, he came up with a main logo and a secondary logo. I geeked out when I opened the email with the final versions. With a professional logo set, I knew it was time to launch Summit Peeks.

Now the project is up and running and getting a great reception. What do you think about the designs? Feel free to give Bradley some logo love in the comments.

If you’re interested in taking over the Summit Peeks Twitter account for a week (Monday – Friday), sign up. It’s a short application, so it takes no time at all to fill out. We can’t do this without the people who make Akron such an interesting place to live, work and play.
