Whether you’re sober-curious, taking a break from alcohol, or simply looking for a delicious drink without the buzz, Akron, Ohio, is quickly becoming a haven for non-alcoholic and zero-proof beverages. But what’s the difference between the two?
Zero-proof drinks are crafted to replicate the experience of traditional cocktails but with 0% alcohol content. These drinks replicate the flavors and complexity of classic drinks, allowing you to enjoy the same sensations without the alcohol.
Non-alcoholic drinks are alcohol-removed or de-alcoholized beverages, meaning the alcohol is taken out of the drink but a small amount is left.
Mocktails in Akron
My friend and I recently dubbed our exploration of non-alcoholic beverages around Akron a “mocktail tour,” and I’m excited to share the highlights. Akron is really embracing the non-alcoholic, sober-curious scene, and it’s amazing to see so many spots offering great alternatives to traditional alcoholic drinks. It’s a reminder that it’s okay to have fun without the alcohol, and these places offer that experience in spades.
1. The Circle of 5ths
Our first stop was Circle of 5ths. While they don’t have a dedicated mocktail menu, their talented bartenders can easily whip up something special just for you. The personal touch and creativity made this spot a perfect way to kick off the tour.
2. Crave
Next, we stopped by Crave, a trendy spot known for its upscale dining experience. We tried the Crushed by Foam, Pom-Tree, and Mocha “Not” Tini mocktails. These drinks were delicious and a great choice for those looking for something refreshing and flavorful. The drinks at Crave might not be as customizable, but they’re definitely good and offer a great non-alcoholic option.
3. Jilly’s Music Room
Jilly’s Music Room holds a special place in my heart — in fact, I hosted Mocktail Hour there in January. Jilly’s offers a great selection of functioning mocktails, infused mocktails, as well as wine and beer. The best part? If you don’t see exactly what you want, the bartenders are happy to create something special just for you. With live music and a fun atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to sip on a flavorful drink while enjoying the vibe.
4. Perfect Pour
Perfect Pour is a martini, bourbon, and burger specialty bar that’s newer to the mocktail scene. It’s a fun place to experience a non-alcoholic whiskey drink, allowing you to enjoy the vibe of a specialty bar while keeping things alcohol-free. Their creativity and attention to detail make it a great addition to Akron’s mocktail offerings.
5. Merchant Tavern
At Merchant Tavern, the focus is on fresh, clean ingredients, and their mocktails reflect this beautifully. This laid-back spot is perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink made with locally sourced ingredients and thoughtfully paired flavors.
6. Cilantro
Cilantro served up a yuzu-guava and coconut mocktail that I absolutely loved—it was like a tropical vacation in a glass. The combination of exotic flavors was balanced perfectly, and I truly hope they add this drink to their regular menu. It was a refreshing, flavorful treat!
7. The Lockview
The Lockview offers non-alcoholic spirits and beer, allowing you to enjoy a cold, refreshing drink without any alcohol. While they don’t offer hand-crafted mocktails, the variety of non-alcoholic beer and spirits is a great option for those looking for something more traditional.
8. High St. Hop House
Hop House has great mocktails made with fresh ingredients. They offer a wonderful selection of non-alcoholic drinks that highlight vibrant flavors and are perfect for those who enjoy fresh, crisp beverages. It’s a great place to enjoy a creative mocktail in a cozy, welcoming atmosphere.
9. Good Company
Good Company is new to the mocktail scene and offers a delicious mocktail that pairs perfectly with their fried chicken sandwich. If you’re looking for a hearty, satisfying meal alongside a refreshing drink, this is definitely the place to go.

It’s encouraging to see local spots embracing the sober-curious movement and offering creative drinks that make it easy to enjoy a night out—without the alcohol.
