Akron-Area Home Renovation Businesses Guide

By Megan Delong-Borick, Everyday Akron team member

So, you need help with home renovations.

Everyday Akron team member Megan here, and I’ve been a homeowner for three years. Every month it seems like something goes wrong. Everything from replacing our roof in the first month of owning our house to now having to completely renovate our bathroom because of a leak we didn’t know about… yeah. We love being homeowners. 🙃

Luckily, we have a great group of friends and colleagues that give us word-of-mouth recommendations for a ton of work.

Check out the guide map below for hardware stores, designers, general contractors and more. But first, here are a few standouts from around Akron.

Hazel Tree Design Studio — You’ve likely seen their iconic building on West Market Street! They even helped decorate the new venue in the Middlebury neighborhood called The Bank (owned by Tangiers, in the old Goodyear bank attached to Goodyear Theater).

Akron Materials— Located in Barberton now (right near Skoops!), they have so much lumber, tile, vintage doors, and more. They’re so knowledgeable about renovations, so ask them any questions you have!

January Paints — The best local wallpaper and paint store around! They are a real mom-and-pop shop. They’re so kind and give great suggestions.

Habitat for Humanity of Summit County ReStore — They offer a mix of new and previously loved furniture, paint, and decor. Watch for weekly sales on their social media pages so you know what to look for when you get there.

Barberton Tree Service — We recently had them take a dead tree down for us, and they gave us the mulch! Great customer service.

Acme Fence — Another business that we used at our own home, Acme Fence is located in Middlebury, so we were happy to support them.
