Crown Point Ecology Center | Non-Profit Feature

Crown Point Ecology Center is more than a farm โ€” itโ€™s a living, breathing community space where people of all backgrounds can reconnect with the land, learn new skills, and experience the healing power of nature.

Whether youโ€™re passionate about local food, education, the environment, or simply building a stronger and more compassionate community, thereโ€™s a place for you here. We are rooted in Summit County and growing alongside the people we serve โ€” and weโ€™d love to welcome you to the farm.

How and when did the non-profit get started?

Crown Point Ecology Center was founded in 1989 by the Dominican Sisters of Peace on a 115-acre historic farm in Bath, Ohio. It began as a vision to protect the land, grow healthy food, and reconnect people with the natural world through hands-on education and community engagement. Over the past 35 years, it has evolved into a regional leader in regenerative agriculture, ecological education, and food access โ€” while staying rooted in its founding mission of nurturing both people and the planet.

What are the mission and vision of the non-profit?

Our Mission: The mission of Crown Point is to demonstrate the practical applications of ecology and to connect spirituality, social justice and environmental protection.

Our Vision: The vision of Crown Point is to be a role model for food security and sustainable land use, through farm stewardship, advocacy, education and collaboration.

Core Values: Crown Point expresses its mission through organic agriculture and environmental education programs that integrate four core values โ€” Community, Justice, Spirituality and Sustainability.

What is your focus in now? Who do you help and why?

Our focus now is on regenerative agriculture, environmental education, and food justice. We grow nutrient-dense, chemical-free produce while teaching people of all ages how to live in right relationship with the land.

We serve a wide spectrum of the community โ€” including local families, school groups, disability and special needs communities, homeschool networks, and food-insecure households through partnerships like the Summit Fresh Mobile Market. We do this because access to healthy food, nature connection, and environmental education should not be a privilege โ€” they are essential to community health, dignity, and long-term sustainability.

Where is the non-profit headed? What do you hope to accomplish in the future?

Crown Point is moving toward becoming a year-round hub for regenerative agriculture, community wellness, and inclusive environmental education. We are currently expanding our impact through a planned four-season greenhouse, increased food access partnerships, and more nature-based programs that serve children, families, special needs communities, and underserved populations.

In the future, we aim to ensure that every person โ€” regardless of income, ability, or background โ€” has access to fresh food, meaningful connection to nature, and the tools to become stewards of the environment.

Our long-term goal is to be a model for how small farms can nourish both people and the planet โ€” not just seasonally, but all year long.

How can people get involved?

People can get involved with Crown Point in many meaningful ways. Volunteers are always needed to help with farming, education programs, animal care, events, and seasonal community workdays. Individuals and businesses can also support our mission by donating, sponsoring programs, or becoming CSA members to directly support local regenerative agriculture.

We also welcome partnerships with schools, nonprofits, corporate groups, and community organizations looking to engage in hands-on service or educational experiences. Whether through time, financial support, or collaboration, every contribution helps nourish people, restore the land, and expand access to fresh food in Summit County and beyond.
