Ryan Leflar, artistic director and founder of Starcatcher Theater, shares how the new performing arts space got started and why they’re making the arts affordable.

What types of products or services do you offer?
We are an affordable and accessible performing arts space. We offer lessons, workshops, and production opportunities for everyone!
How do you help your customers?
We strive to be accessible, that is why we work with ASL interpreters and creative arts therapies to ensure we are providing the most to all our clientele.
How did the business get started?
We started our private lessons and workshops in 2025 then began offering main stage productions just this year! Our first production, Louder Than Words, took place in April and our second production, My Dear Aunt Flow is happening August 7-9, 2026.
What is your business’s relationship with the city of Akron and Akronites?
We are located inside Summit ArtSpace and do multiple outreach programs in the area. Our mission is to make the arts affordable to an underrepresented community right here in Akron.
How do you see your business growing into the future?
We hope to continue growing our productions by inviting more and more collaborators! For our current production, we are working with Access Women and Childrens shelter to host a menstrual product drive. I think these community connections are key to making our mission happen.
