Meet Kathleen Rogers

Meet Kathleen Rogers:

Hey I’m Katie! I grew up in a quiet little farm town called Atwater. I made my journey to the big city to attend the University of Akron, where I fell in love with all of the wonders around me. Thursdays dance parties made me feel alive, visits to the Akron Art Museum and Summit Art Space made me feel inspired, and quiet visits to the library allowed me to slow down-it was the perfect combination and I met so many fantastic friends that are still riding with me today!

I graduated in 2011 with a BA in Art Education (Myers School of Art was amazing!) and began teaching/subbing while working for Independence of Portage County as a support professional. This job led me to seek a career in the Occupational Therapy field, which is what I do currently. I travel to Goodyear Heights, Manchester, Canton and Wooster to help children with fine motor/cognitive skills in the daycare setting. I work with so many uplifting and talented teachers-they make my day so much brighter.

I’ve recently reached back to my love of art-I missed it! So far I’ve made over 50 paintings this year. One of my pieces “Rubber City Revival” is currently on display at Summit Art Space. It’s a painting of the famous Goodyear Blimp over the Akron skyline. This painting illustrates my love for the city as well as its communities and is meant to share the spark inside of me that I feel every time I visit.
